Camp Yuba Relay Triathlon

Saturday was the big day for the triathlon with Lindsay and Noelle. Quite a few things happened leading up to the triathlon. On Thursday night the three of us went and did a pre-race check in and then had a girls' night out. It was so much fun! We went to dinner and then did a little fun shopping and then ice cream. I was worried about doing the biking part of the tri because there has been so much going on with Doug's back, me being sick, Andrew being sick...I just didn't have much time to ride before.

Our Way Cool Glasses!

Friday night Doug and I were getting my bike together and checking the tires. I pumped up the front tire and then walked away and about 3 minutes later we heard a burst of air...the innertube busted! So I changed the tube (all by myself for the first time). Then I started getting everything else ready for the next morning and started to hear air leaking...the front tire busted again!!!! At this point it was a little after 8:30 and we didn't have anymore tubes. Doug tried to fix the ones we had, but then tried to run to a store before it closed. Unfortunately they didn't carry the right size. I have to be honest I was starting to think I was not supposed to do the race...and I was exhausted, sick and in tears. Noelle called me at about 10 and said her friend had a tube so we went and got it (what a life saver). So we put fixed the bike and left it for the morning.
Saturday morning - bright and early we were out the door heading down to Yuba Lake. Everything went off without a hitch this day. Lindsay started with the swim (1 mile) and did amazing. She passed the timing chip off to me and then I took off to ride 25 miles. I couldn't get my iPod to work so I got to listen to myself breathe for an hour and forty minutes! I was not expecting the ride to be 90% UPHILL!!! I got down to 5mph. It was awful. I had to keep talking to myself saying "you can do this" "don't give up". I was afraid I was not going to make it to the end. I had Doug's phone with me and everyone else was back at the lake tracking me to make sure I didn't stop with a flat or any other problem. I finally made it back to the transition area to hand off the chip to Noelle. Noelle then had to run a little over 6 miles...again it was mostly uphill...not fun. But she came around the last turn and Lindsay and I were waiting for her so we could all run in as a team.

Before the Tri started

It was a great experience doing this triathlon with Lindsay and Noelle - they were a great team. But, I am not convinced I want to do this one again - too many hills for me. I am just proud of us for finishing the whole thing! GO TEAM HLN!!! :)
